We spend a minute with the inspirational former Australian Foreign Minister, The Hon Julie Bishop.
What is the motto you live by or the best piece of advice you have ever received?
“My mother always said you ‘go this way but once’, and by that she meant take every opportunity. You don’t get a second chance at life. So make the most of it. So I’ve always lived by that motto. You go this way but once.”
What was your dream job when you left school?
“When I left school I wanted to be a lawyer, but after I finished law school, I actually wanted to be a diplomat. I even went for an interview at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. But I decided not to continue with it and I went on to practice law for 20 years and then went into politics. And so my last five years were [spent] in the role of Australia’s chief diplomat.”
If you could spend an hour talking to someone living or dead, who would it be?
“My mother, she died about 15 years ago, and I would love to talk to her to tell her what’s happened over the last 15 of my life and find out what it’s like on the other side.”
Stay tuned for our full interview with Julie, it’s coming soon!
