The book: A Real Girl’s Guide To Money

The author: Effie Zahos

The blurb:

Sometimes that little voice in your head knows exactly what to ask. “You earn a decent income so why are you still broke?” Or what about this little gem that pops up every so often when you catch up with the girls: “How can she afford that?” Maybe your biggest fear is retiring in a polyester outfit because you haven’t saved enough to live the fashionista lifestyle, you’re accustomed to. This book is for every woman who has that voice in her head.

Inside you’ll find:

  • The three-bucket approach to successful budgeting.
  • Five spending triggers and the fixes.
  • Mix-and-match strategies to get that home deposit.
  • Your guide to shares, ETFs, funds, property and fixed interest.
  • 10 ways to boost your super without putting in an extra cent.
  • Prams, P-plates and everything in between.
  • Those five fiscal date nights you must go on.
  • Deal with divorce with a clear head, not a broken heart.
  • 1+2+3 = your retirement plan.

After 20-odd years on the Money magazine brand, editor Effie Zahos has come across just about every possible money question and her hope is that you’ll find the answers to some of your questions here.

The review:

I LOVE this book! Whilst there are lots of books on budgeting and finance out there, Effie Zahos, has decided to create a title that really speaks to women. It’s not overly dense and full of financial jargon. It’s straight forward and easy to digest, but still covers all of the key elements to achieving financial success.

Each chapter in this book answers a question that every woman is going to ask at some point in her life. No matter how savvy you might be with money, if there is a financial question percolating, you will find the answer here. You’ll read some hard truths, but also get some great tips in A Real Girl’s Guide To Money.

In addition to addressing all of those financial questions, Effie has included her 26-week money makeover guide in the book. Each week you will get a great tip on ways to save. You will also get a tip to ensure the money you have right now is working well for you. Also included in the book are great stand-out pages “If you only do one thing” and “Need to know” with fantastic take-aways.

If you are time poor and want to make the most of your finances, or just get back on track, then this is definitely a must read.
