Support Your Local – Beachy Keen – Jan Juc

by | 20 Aug 2020

Small business, I’m talking businesses with less than 20 employees, account for almost 98% of all businesses in Australia. So, when times are tough lets show-up for our mates in business and support your local!  In this series, we’re chatting to ‘local’, purpose-driven businesses owners, highlighting who they are, what they do, why they chose to go into business, and why you should get behind them. Introducing Beachy Keen, Jan Juc. I chat with owner Aneta Schultz.

Flossi: Hi Aneta, you’re the owner of Beachy Keen Jan Juc, tell me about your business and what you do?

AS: Beachy Keen is an accommodation business, with a unique retail offering, located in Jan Juc (Surf Coast) of Victoria. Guests are able to purchase the items that surround them during their stay. It’s a trust based system where guests are literally able to take home their items if they like them. These items are purchased via the Beachy Keen website. Some of our merchandise includes pots, planters, bedding, prints and other homeware accessories.

What’s your business story so far?

AS: Beachy Keen has been operating for 3 years as an accommodation/retail offering. Whist we are currently closed for accommodation bookings at the moment because of strict COVID restrictions in Victoria, we hope to reopen at the end of September 2020. Customers are still able to purchase our beautiful products via www.beachykeenjanjuc.com.au.

What’s your business philosophy?

AS: Beachy Keen’s philosophy is to create a safe, positive and enjoyable experience for guests who stay with us. We also like to stay true to our offering, where our guests actually get what they see, and keep things real. Images on our social media platforms are raw and true so there are no surprises when you come to stay.

What set’s you apart from your competitors – why should people visit your business and what can they expect?

AS: Beachy Keen is unique in that we try and support local where we can. For example, we stock bedding by local suppliers Society of Wanderers, we stock bath and beauty goods by Willow and Bach and homewares by Black Salt and Co and we sell their products too. We love travelling with our furry friends, therefore do allow pets to stay too. We are also about to launch an initiative where 5% of sales and bookings are donated to a local animal charity. Details of this is yet to be confirmed.

Our target market is couples with or without furry friends and small family groups (4-5 people).
